Conflict of Interest and Commercial Support Disclosure Policy

1. Purpose

Hexagon Training is committed to maintaining the integrity, objectivity, and scientific rigor of its Continuing Education activities.
This Policy establishes procedures for identifying, reviewing, and disclosing potential conflicts of interest and commercial support in accordance with applicable CE sponsor standards in Canada and the United States.

2. Definitions

For the purposes of this Policy:

"Conflict of Interest" refers to a financial, professional, or personal relationship that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the content, presentation, or objectivity of a CE activity.
"Commercial Support" refers to financial or in-kind contributions provided by an external organization in support of a CE activity.

3. Identification of Potential Conflicts

  • 3.1  All speakers, planners, reviewers, and individuals in a position to control CE content must disclose any relevant financial relationships or potential conflicts of interest prior to the approval of the CE activity.
  • 3.2 Disclosures must include any financial relationships with commercial entities related to the subject matter of the CE activity within the past twenty four (24) months.
  • 3.3 Individuals must also disclose the absence of relevant conflicts.

4. Review and Resolution

  • 4.1 Disclosures are reviewed by the Board or a designated CE review committee prior to program approval.
  • 4.2 Where a potential conflict is identified, Hexagon Training will take appropriate steps to mitigate or resolve the conflict. These steps may include:
  • Content review or revision
  • Peer review of materials
  • Modification of presentation format
  • Restriction of promotional content
  • Selection of an alternative presenter
  • 4.3 If a conflict cannot be adequately mitigated, the individual may be removed from participation in the CE activity.

5. Disclosure to Participants

  • 5.1 All relevant financial relationships and commercial support will be disclosed to participants at the beginning of the CE activity.
  • 5.2 If no relevant conflicts exist, participants will be informed that the speaker and planners have reported no relevant financial relationships.
  • 5.3 Disclosure statements will be included in program materials or verbally communicated at the start of the activity.

6. Independence of Educational Content

  • 6.1 Commercial entities may not influence the selection of speakers, content development, learning objectives, or evaluation processes.
  • 6.2 CE content must be evidence-based, balanced, and free from promotional bias.
  • 6.3 Product promotion during CE activities is prohibited.

7. Use of APA or CPA Approval Statements

  • 7.1 If Hexagon Training is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists, the required APA approval statement will be used exactly as prescribed and will not be modified.
  • 7.2 If an activity is approved to provide CPA CE credit, Hexagon Training will describe the activity as approved to provide CE credit and will not refer to CPA approval as accreditation.

8. Record Retention

Hexagon Training maintains documentation of conflict of interest disclosures and mitigation actions for a minimum of three (3) years and will provide documentation to CE sponsoring organizations upon request.

Changes to this Policy

Hexagon Training reserves the right to change this Conflict of Interest and Commercial Support Policy as deemed necessary or as required by law. Any changes will be posted on the Website and Users are deemed to have accepted the updated Policy upon continued use of the Website.
